The Hike to the Top of Diamond Head

Posted by

The hike to the top of Diamond Head this morning was not as hard as I thought it might be! It started off as a concrete path through the park and then soon turned into a very uneven rock and dirt path. I had to watch my every step because it would have been real easy to trip. I was amazed at some of the footwear I saw on people – from flip flops to heeled boots, and one guy had those things that look like gloves for feet. A few people were carrying little kids/babies in a pack on their back. My back pack suddenly didn’t seem so heavy.

When I was getting close to the top, the trail turned into a series of steps and a tunnel – all very narrow. You do have to be in somewhat good shape, but if you go slow and steady, it’s not so bad. I made it up to the top in 30 minutes, which was surprising because I had heard the average time for round trip was about two hours.

I also heard that there’s an average of two rescues a week – so I guess not everyone makes it. I happened to see such a helicopter rescue (from the ground) the other day. If you can make it to the top the view is quite awesome!

Were the pictures from thr top of Diamond Head a panoramic view of 3 pictues? That would be amazing if they fit together to make a long picture.
