Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms

I drove out to Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms today on my way north to Myrtle Beach. Sullivan’s Island is where Dorthea Benton Frank’s books Sullivan’s Island and Return to Sullivan’s Island are set. And the last book setting that I will be visiting this trip is Isle of Palms where her book The Isle of Palms is set.

Sullivan’s Island is pretty laid back and low key. Not too commercialized – just a few restaurants and a lot of nice beach “shacks.” Isle of Palms is similar with a little more in the way of shops and such. I stopped at Coconut Joe’s for a Shrimp Po Boy for lunch. Then it was back on the road again with a quick stop at Pawley’s Island to stretch my legs and do a little shopping.
