Road Trip to the North Shore

I took a road trip to the North Shore of Minnesota this past weekend. Lake Superior is one of my favorite destinations in Minnesota. The weather was sunny, a bit on the cool side, especially right by the lake, but still pretty nice.

Our first stop was to walk along the bike trail along the lake north of Duluth. From there we went hiking at Gooseberry Falls. There’s a nice 1 mile loop that was a good hike and had an overlook half way through with a great view of Lake Superior.

The next stop was Split Rock Lighthouse. I spent 55 years in Minnesota before moving to Florida and I had never been there before. $10.00 gets you in and you can walk up to the top of the lighthouse and also tour the lighthouse keeper’s former residence. There is also the remains of an old tramway that was used to haul supplies up the steep hill from the lake. On the way there I found the perfect place to take a photo of the lighthouse, and I only had to climb up on a wall with a chain link fence to do it.
