The official countdown started 365 days ago – though in reality it started five years ago – the day I decided that I would be in Bora Bora for my 50th birthday. The first time I saw a photo of an over-water bungalow in Bora Bora in Islands magazine, I knew that one day I would go there. Well, it’s probably been 30 years since I first saw that photo, but “one day” really is coming – tomorrow! I plan to blog my way to Bora Bora for those of you interested in following my journey. There will be a couple stops on the way and no doubt a few adventures to be had.

Before this journey begins I would like to impart a little advice for those willing to listen: Life goes by in a flash. 30 years seems like a long time, but it isn’t. One day you’re 20 with a head filled with big dreams and the next you’re staring 50 square in the eye. If you have a dream to travel somewhere far away, don’t wait for “someday.” Plan for it, save for it, whatever you have to do to make sure time doesn’t pass you by.
