My weekend getaway to Crystal River started on Thanksgiving Day morning. It’s about three and half hours away from my home in Fort Myers. The drive was easy – up Interstate 75 and then I headed west on a few state and county roads which brought me to a stop at the Ellie Schiller Homosassa.

My morning walk today was a little chilly at 66 degrees. Funny how quickly I acclimated to 90 degrees in Fort Myers. I noticed something that I’ve never noticed in all of the years I’ve been going to the beach – watch the video and see the live shells bury themselves under the sand as.

Treasure Island, Florida Day 2

Day two was an awesome day! A few walks on the beach and then a boat trip this afternoon with Charter Finders to Shell Island Preserve. Dolphins swam right next to the boat which was really cool to see. The island can only be accessed by boat, and they don’t call it shell island for.

Day one of my road trip to Treasure Island, Florida – near St. Petersburg – was a good one! An easy drive from Fort Myers, and a beautiful day! I left the 90 degree humid weather in Fort Myers, and only a couple hours north, found low 80’s, sunshine, and no humidity. I was starting.

Doc Ford’s in Fort Myers Beach

Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grill is located water side just before the Matanzas Pass Bridge which takes you to Fort Myers Beach (Estero Island), Florida. I stopped in for an appetizer and some conch chowder recently and was treated with excellent service, a beautiful view, and some really good food. New York Times best.
